Earwax Removal
Earwax, or "cerumen" as it is medically known, is a substance that is natural and normal to be found inside your ear canals. It helps protect the ears and can often be left alone. Sometimes, wax can build up excessively inside the ears and can start to affect your hearing and give you a "blocked" sensation. Furthermore, if you wear hearing aids, wax can easily get inside the small, delicate parts of the hearing aid, and affect its sound quality. When these things start to happen, it's time to have your earwax professionally removed.

At Finchley Hearing, earwax is removed through a safe and simple procedure called "microsuction," which uses very small suction equipment to gently remove any problematic earwax. Depending on the depth and consistency of the wax, we may also use a variety of additional small tools to scoop or irrigate out any remaining wax.

As long as you do not have any perforations of the eardrum or any previous surgeries or other medical complications of the ear, it will usually be recommended that you soften your earwax with olive oil based ear drops for several days prior to having the wax removed. This will make the microsuction procedure more comfortable for you.
